Most Child Friendly Barangay 2009
Three (3) Barangays of Olongapo City were recognized the Most Child Friendly Barangay 2009 during the Flag Raising Ceremony at Rizal Triangle covered court, by Mayor James “Bong” Gordon Jr. and Gene Eclarino, head of City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
West Bajac-bajac emerged first place as the Most Child Friendly Barangay followed by Barangay Sta. Rita and Barangay Gordon Heights. Other barangays were given Certificates of Participation for their usual support and contribution in the activity.
The winning Barangays advanced the objective of the City which a recipient of the Most Child Friendly Highly Urbanized City award in the national level. This is also in recognition for the efforts of the Barangay for the protection of child in the community.
The criteria for selecting the Most Child Friendly Barangays are the following, policy formulation, institutional body, service delivery, community participation and child participation. Every barangays were randomly visited to check their policy and documents and to ensure that their facilities, programs and organizations are child friendly. An interview has been made with the health workers for the health care and the activity of the barangay for the community.
The award is considered as the recognition of the particular barangay that upholds the right of the children on survival, protection, development and participation.
