‘GAPO REMEMBERS GORDON, Sr.
Olongapo City commemorated the 94th birth anniversary of James L. Gordon, Sr., the acknowledged Father of Olongapo on January 19, 2011.
Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr., FL Anne Gordon, City Councilors, BSP- James L. Gordon Council scouts, city government employees and officials led the wreath-laying at the statue of James L. Gordon, Sr. in the lobby of city hall.
“I know I’m in no comparison to him but I’m trying to accomplish and do the things he would have wanted me to do as steward of the community for which he died for,” Mayor Gordon said in his message, vowing to continue his father’s advocacy to always put to fore the welfare of Olongapeños.
James L. Gordon, Sr. is considered the Father of Olongapo because of his valuable contributions in the formation of Olongapo up to its conversion into a city, which was realized on June 1, 1966, and finally sacrificing his own life for his beloved city fighting the bad elements of society.
The 94th birth anniversary of James L. Gordon, Sr. was observed in simple rites before the statue of the acknowledged "Father of Olongapo" in the lobby of city hall. Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. and FL Tita Anne Gordon were joined by City Councilors Rodel Cerezo, Eduardo Piano, Elena Dabu, Gina Perez, James “Bugsy “ Delos Reyes, Tet Marzan, Edna Elane and SK Federation President Dolly Mae Ramos with the James L. Gordon Council-BSP in the laying of wreaths on January 19, 2011.
