SEA LION BORN IN SUBIC

Sheena, one of the sea lions from the water based theme park, Ocean Adventure, made history early Saturday morning when she gave birth to the country's first naturally born sea lion.
Although this is Sheena's second pregnancy, this is the first time however that a sea lion pup was born in captivity here.
What made the whole thing doubly interesting was that the father, Charlie, was beside the mother when she was giving birth.
Tim Desmond, Ocean Adventure's Chief Executive Officer, says the pup is doing well with his mother and is being observed by Ocean Adventure''s veterinarian and animal care staff.
"The new pup is doing well. It looks healthy and our veterinary staff and animal care people are watching Sheena and her baby for the next 48 hours to determine if she'll be nursing properly, " Desmond said.
He also added that should Sheena fail to nurse the new pup properly, the Ocean Adventure people will take the new pup and try to feed her with a proper milk formula that would meet her needs.
"If Sheena will not be able to nurse the baby pup properly, then we will be feeding her manually with a formula that we will be processing in our own lab, " he added.
Residents welcomed the new addition to the water park family saying that this is a first for the country and the freeport.
