RP-US naval exercises open today at Freeport

SUBIC Bay Freeport — The Philippine and the United States navies will conduct a bilateral naval exercise codenamed "PN-USN Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Exercise 2005" in Zambales and Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. Nine military vessels will dock at the Ship Repair Facility to participate in the bilateral military exercises.
These include Task Group 80.4, PS 74 and PS 36 for the Philippines; and Task Force 712, Task Group 712, USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49), USS Paul Hamilton (DDG 60), USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG 60) and USS Safeguard (ARS 50) for the US counterpart. Exercise CARAT 2005 will be opened by Rear Admiral Kevin Quinn, Commander Task Force 712; and Commodore Octavio Pabuayon, Philippine Navy Exercise director.
Guest of honor will be Commodore Alfredo D. Abueg Jr., commander of Philippine Fleet. The Philippine Navy will actively participate in all CARAT 05 exercises in various levels.
