$300-million power plant to rise in Subic Freeport
SUBIC BAY Freeport - A 300-megawatt power plant worth $300 million will soon rise at the Freeport after the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority signed over the weekend a memorandum of understanding with Taiwan Cogeneration Corp.
Taiwan Cogen, a subsidiary of Taiwan Power Corp., will supply electricity directly to Subic Enerzone, the current power provider in the Freeport and Olongapo City.
The Taiwanese firm will prepare a study on the power requirements of 999 companies and other establishments operating in the former American naval base.
The firm will give special rates to Taiwanese investors in the area. "A possible one-peso-per-kilowatt deduction on their current power rates awaits the Taiwanese," SBMA Administrator Armand Arreza said.
"Both the SBMA and Taiwan Cogen, led by its president Shu Sung Fou, have come up with a good package that will give our investors competitive rates," SBMA Chairman Feliciano Salonga added. Ernie B. Esconde - ABS CBN
