SUBIC BAY FREEPORT—The three -day “Subik! Subik! Festival,” participated in by various stakeholders in this freeport, Zambales, Bataan and Olongapo City, succeeded in generating awareness of this investment haven’s potential for tourism-related activities, officials here said.
Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Administrator Armand Arreza said the festival’s success could be gauged by the turnout of participants in various events and the grand parade on Saturday that exceeded the organizers’ expectations.
The festival featured the best destinations and locations in the country for adventure and ecotourism activities. It also highlighted the tourist attractions of Bataan, Olongapo City, Subic Bay Freeport and Zambales.
“I think we were successful in generating awareness of what Subic and its outlying communities have to offer not only among local but also international tour operators,” Arreza said.
“We were able to show our capacity to hold events as big as the Subic festival and upgrade our products for international market,” he said.
George Lorenzana, chair of the Greater Subic Bay Tourism Bureau, the lead organizer of the event, was ecstatic.
“We are all very happy with the way things turned out,” he said.
Lorenzana said the event turned out very successful even if it was planned barely a month ago and “practically with zero money.”
