Canadian trade mission eyes Subic as new investment site
Around 25 Fil-Canadian business firms, members of three Canadian business groups, recently visited this premier Freeport for a six-day business mission, eyeing Subic as a possible investment site for Fil-Canadian businessmen.
Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Administrator Armand Arreza said: "The trade relations between Canada and the Philippines would certainly be a big boost to the Philippines especially when Filipino-Canadian businessmen spearhead the trade mission."
The three business groups that aim to prosper economic trade relations between the two countries are: the Philippine Chamber of Commerce of Toronto, Canada; the Philippines-Canada Business Council; and the Manitoba Business Council.
The business mission also tackled the possibility of erecting a retirement village for Canadians who find the Philippines a very suitable place to spend their twilight years.
Arreza noted that Subic Bay has three existing retirement homes that cater to Japanese nationals 60 years old and above.
He affirmed that Subic Bay is suitable for retirees due to its security, accessibility, natural attractions, amenities, activities and the presence of a 24-hour medical team to ensure that retirees would feel safe and at home.
At least 25 different companies from all over Canada participated in the business mission visiting not only Subic Bay Freeport, but also other key institutions like Clark Development Corporation (CDC), the Canadian Embassy, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Bureau of Investments (BOI), the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA), the Philippines Overseas Employment Agency (POEA), the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
The mission would end on the 18th of February where part of the group would visit other tourist attractions like Bohol, Boracay and Cebu. -- Balita.Ph
