More trade route for shipping industries in Asia
A more dynamic business growth is expected to happen in the country's premier Freeport zone this year following the visit here of 31 top ranking executives from Japan's largest international trading port.
"They visited Subic to see the ongoing infrastructure projects on our seaport facilities and learn about the business climate here," said Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Administrator Armand C. Arreza.
The visit was aimed at exchanging information and ideas on common interest between Subic Bay Freeport and the Port of Kitakyushu, which is the largest international trading port in west Japan and domestic physical distribution base.
"The visit will also boost our opportunity to promote partnership and cooperation with other seaport and airport counterparts in the neighboring countries like Japan," said SBMA Chairman Feliciano G. Salonga who was the former president of the Subic Shipyard in Subic, Zambales.
Salonga said that the Port of Kitakyushu has Sisterhood Port relations with Tacoma in USA, and Laem Chabang in Thailand, and Friendship-Port with Dalian, China as well, where an annual international exchange is carried out to actively promote mutual development.
"With the help of the experts like people from Port of Kitakyushu, we could maximize the potentials of our port facilities to attract more ships to come to Subic Bay. This will also result to more investments that would consequently create more jobs," he said.
During the courtesy call, the delegates were given a briefing on the current improvements being undertaken by the SBMA, particularly on the seaport and airport facilities, which was led by Arreza, together with SBMA Deputy Administrator for Ports Operations Percival Subala, Seaport Department manager Perfecto Pascual and Subic Bay International Airport manager Marcelino Santos.
"We are very pleased to note the swift improvement of the Subic Bay Port Project. The modern port facility will open new and more capable trade routes for shipping industries in Asia and other parts of the world," said Norihiko Yamagata, chief executive and director of Kitakyushu Seaport and Airport Bureau (KSAB), after a brief tour at the project site.
The visitors were also given a tour at the Freeport's Central Business District Area, Subic Bay Industrial Park (SBIP) that houses mainly Taiwanese investors, and the Subic Techno Park (STEP) of Japanese investors.
SBMA officials welcomed the 31-member delegation of the Kitakyushu Promotion Association, which is an affiliate of KSAB, the port authority of Port of Kitakyushu in Japan. The delegation included representatives from Kanmon Container Terminal Co., Ltd. president Toshiyuki Yamamoto, Kyushu Kooyo Co. Ltd. president Koichi Nishida, Kyushu Sougou Kensetsu Co. Ltd. President Kyotsugo Okamoto, Nippon Steel Transportation Co. manager Junji Taniguchi, and Kokura Regional Harbor Transportation Association chairman Hideaki Teshima. Balita.ph
