50 more cops shipped to Subic
The Philippine Star
At least 50 policemen from the Eastern Police District (EPD) will be leaving on March 6 for a 15-day re-training program at the Philippine National Police Values and Training School in Subic, Zambales.
Forty-one policemen from the Pasig City police and nine others from the Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) of the EPD comprise the second batch of trainees headed to the school following the discovery of a shabu "market" in the city last Feb. 10.
Shanties inside a compound in Barangay Sto. Tomas had been openly selling shabu and renting out cubicles to users for almost three years before it was raided by agents of the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force.
The entire 325-strong Pasig City police force was sent to re-training by PNP chief Director General Arturo Lomibao following the raid on the drug den, which also resulted in the arrest of some 300 people, including minors and women.
The first batch of 65 trainees will complete the training program on March 7.
However, nine CIU operatives are up in arms after they were ordered to undergo re-training, explaining their function was not related to illegal drugs.
"Sobrang unfair naman yata yan. Ang function ng unit namin ay purely investigative in nature at follow-up operations lang. Hindi kami involved sa anti-drug operation," said one CIU operative.
He explained that they are not against the re-training, but insisted that they should not be placed in the second batch because it makes it appear that they were part of the shabu market debacle. – Non Alquitran
