Local hauler, forwarder tapped for faster goods in Subic
Following the famous adage "time is gold," a local hauler and a forwarder are being tapped to provide support services to Taiwan's leading shipping company Wan Hai Lines (Phils.), Inc.to transport on time shipments of manufacturers here.
Recently, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Board of Directors signed the approval for the operation of HL Speedy Trans., Inc. (HSTI), a local firm engaged in trucking and hauling services of goods and merchandise, and Mutual Fortune Express, Inc. (MFEI), another freight and cargo forwarding company.
"The operation of these two support services will be beneficial for our locators. First, our locators can now ship goods directly to and from Subic through the entry of Wan Hai Lines. Second, the services of HL Speedy and Mutual Fortune will save them time and money because they will deliver those goods directly and immediately to the locators," said SBMA Chairman Feliciano G. Salonga.
Wan Hai, which successfully made its maiden port call in Subic Bay recently, will provide investors and locators inside the Freeport the opportunity to transport their containerized cargos direct from manufacturing plants to the ships.
SBMA Senior Deputy Administrator for Operations Gen. Jose Calimlim (Ret.) said, "This is an opportunity for investors and locators to take advantage of the Wan Hai's capability in shipping containerized goods."
HL Speedy is being tapped by Wan Hai to be the authorized representative to transport both empty and laden containers from the NSD Port Area to Subic Freeport investors' factory facilities, or vise versa.
Their services will easily accommodate the transport needs of the investors, thus avoiding delay in delivery of raw materials required by the manufacturers for their products.
"What businessmen are after is the speed at which their goods reach their destinations. The shortest time is the best time for these investors," SBMA Administrator Armand C. Arreza said.
Arreza also revealed that HL Speedy will occupy a property in Subic Gateway Area. The company will infuse US$ 135,000 investment.
Meanwhile, Mutual Fortune Express, Inc. (MFEI), another freight and cargo forwarding company, which will commit an investment of US$ 9,482, will also join the growing transport business community in Subic Freeport.
SBMA officials are confident that Subic Freeport will become the throne of a strong Asian economy in the near future as more investors have already planned to infuse more than US$ 2 billion in committed investments in Subic.
Hanjin will construct a shipyard facility in the Redondo Peninsula worth USD 1 billion.
