Tierro prepares for 2 world meets
WITH momentum on his side, no. 1 local tennis player PJ Tierro is leaving no stone unturned as he prepares for a possible outing in the ITF $25,000 Satellite Circuit and the ATP $25,000 Challenger Event in the coming months.
Fresh from his first international outing for the year—the Tennis Federation Satellite Tennis Circuit held in New Delhi—Tierro moved up 244 places from 1,171 to 927 in the ATP Tour Entry Rankings as he won six ATP points to increase his total to 10 ATP points.
Tierro gained local tennis’ attention when he won his first title at the age of 18 at the Spex Philta Open. By then, Tierro was on his second year of a five-year development program, spearheaded by coach Beeyong Sison of Subic Bay Sports Management Inc. and supported by known sportsman and avid supporter of sports development in the country Jean Henri Lhuillier of Cebuana Lhuillier.
“PJ continues to show promise, talent and hardwork in action. He is a good example to our young Filipino tennis players,” Lhuillier said.
The New Delhi event is just one of the several international tournaments Lhuillier and coach Sison are eyeing for Tierro. In fact, the team plans to have Tierro play in as many as 30 tournaments this year to further improve his ranking. Next in line are the ATP $25,000 Challenger Event in India this April and the ATP/ITF $25,000 Satellite Circuit in May in Indonesia. Manila Standard
