Hebei Jingniu Group, a large-scale transnational company based in China that produces and sells high-tech glass products, is infusing $ 300-million investments for the setting up of a production plant in Subic Freeport.
This was bared in a statement by Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Administrator and Chief Executive Officer Armand Arreza before he left the country the other day to meet with the Hebei Jingniu Group executives in China to sign the contracts finalizing the entry of the company into Subic as investor.
According to Arreza the Hebei Jingniu Group’s investments will generate 6,000 new jobs.
Arreza was joined by Trade Sec. Peter Favila, Subic Clark Alliance for Development (SCAD) Chair Ed Pamintuan and other officials of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Subic-Clark Alliance Development and the SBMA.
Last February, Hebei Jingniu president Wang Chang Li announced that his company has decided to build a glass production plant in inside the Freeport zone and that they have already chosen a site.
The delegation was accompanied by Philippine Representative to Shanghai George Judan.
"After conducting ocular inspections on several areas recommended by the SBMA Investment and Processing Department, we have finally chosen a very suitable plant site near the Subic Gateway District inside the Freeport zone," Wang Chang Li said.
The company will produce high-tech crystallite glasses that are 7 to 8 times more wear-resistant than alloy steel and 10-25 times more corrosion-resistant than stainless steel that very suitable as building materials.
The company’s other products includes float sheet glass, solar control reflective glasses and multi-colored high-tech rolling crystallite glass with various specifications.
During the construction period, the project will hire more than 3,000 skilled and non-skilled workers. Upon completion, the company will employ 2,000 operation workers and 1,000 administrative employees.
The plant needs at least 100 hectares of industrial flat lands to accommodate the production plant for high-tech products such as rolling crystallite glass and coated on-line float glass, which will be supplied to more than 50 countries in Europe, Asia, America and Africa.
Arreza assured the Chinese businessmen that SBMA is very much interested in inviting investors from China to come and invest in Subic.
"We are inviting you to Subic. You are assured that SBMA will provide you the assistance you need to fast tract the processing of your company’s requirements," Arreza said.
For his part, SBMA Chairman Feliciano Salonga expressed confidence that new projects in the Freeport are going to be successful.
"First, there is Hanjin that will build a shipyard in Subic, and now we have Hebei. These success stories are in response to the 10-Point Economic Agenda of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo," Salonga said.(BCM)
