White rock Subic conquerors

LAST October 7, Filipino endurance junkies congregated at the White Rock Resort of Olongapo City for the longest triathlon organized by Eric Imperio and his pals at Extribe. Athletes braved the heat to swim 2km, bike 90km to Zambales, and run 21km among the rolling hills entering the Subic Bay Freeport. Japanese sensation Hiroshi Takei claimed his second consecutive title here. The new queen is Jenny Guerrero, who fended off a challenge by Kaye Lopez during the run, finishing with a time of 5:27:31 to the David’s Salon girl’s 5:35:39. Third among the women was Rizzo Tangan of Fitness First and the Xycos with 5:40:44.

Mark and Ige Lopez finished with times of 4:53:22 and 4:57:42. Chris Pollard, a British expat from Hong Kong, was the fastest biker hands down finishing fourth at 4:58:59 and earning first place in the 31-35 age group. Fifth place and the age group gold for 18-26 went to Joey Rana, 5:07:41, who overcame a modest swim and bike time with a blistering run of 1:38:02.

Completing the podium slots for the 31-35 category inside the top ten were Abe Tayag of Tribe 8, 5:11:13 and Jon-jon Rufino of Polo Tri, 5:11:22. Roy Adeva missed the podium but still booked an 8th place finish with 5:14:43. Adolfo Minoza, 5:17:28 and Rune Stroem 5:19:23 posted the fastest times for the over forties and rounded out the top ten. Over 105 contestants started the course, and only five did not finish
