HK airline starts flights to Clark
CLARK FIELD, Pampanga—Hong Kong Airlines has started its four-times-weekly flights to the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport here, buoying the confidence of local officials and foreign investors in this special economic zone.
Clark International Airport Corp. president Victor Jose Luciano led local officials in welcoming executives of the airline who arrived with over 120 passengers from Hong Kong over the weekend.
“You came at the right time... Let me assure you that we will give our full support for the success of Hong Kong Airlines,” Luciano told airline officials led by its president Kenneth Tong, sales and marketing manager Virginia Yuen and senior advisers Alex Au and Benny Chan.
“People here love to travel and they love to go to Hong Kong,” said Luciano, adding that there are around 20 million people in Central and Northern Luzon who now have an easy and affordable gateway to visit Hong Kong.
Luciano said the regular Hong Kong flights at DMIA will boost the country’s prospect of benefiting from the growing number of Chinese tourists, estimated at around 40 million travelers a year.
Tong, meanwhile, said he sees good business prospects at Clark and hopes to get more flight frequencies. “We want flights for the whole week, once a day,” he said.
“We are quite confident with the market,” said Stanley Kan, general manager of HK Airlines ground services.
Kan, along with airline executives Edward Chong and Cecille Tan, met with Luciano at the CIAC offices on Wednesday to finalize their impending operations at the international airport.
“We will do our very best to help you succeed and hopefully further expand your operations here at DMIA,” Luciano told the executives.
Hong Kong Airlines will fly the Hong Kong-Clark-Hong Kong route every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
Alexander Cauguiran, CIAC executive vice president, also welcomed the entry of Hong Kong Airlines and said those who wish to travel to Hong Kong from the Ilocos, Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon will no longer have to take their flights in Manila.
The airline executives said their airline hopes to respond promptly to the demands of the market and hopes to keep rolling out new routes from Hong Kong in the future.
