Japan asked to clear WWII relics

OLONGAPO City Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. said the Japanese government should assist the Philippine government in identifying areas with a concentration of World War II explosives and should spearhead the clearing operations.

Gordon made the statement following the discovery of vintage grenades in an elementary school in Barangay New Cabalan.

“Vintage bombs and ammunition still pose a danger to the public especially when found by innocent kids and people who knew nothing about handling unexploded vintage weapons,” said Gordon.
