Cop linked to Olongapo massacre undergoes test
A Traffic Management Group (TMG) policeman implicated in the massacre of Viva Hot Babe Scarlet Garcia and three others last Thursday in Olongapo City underwent a paraffin test.
TMG Director Perfecto Palad said upon being informed last Friday that Senior Police Officer (SPO) 1 Leopoldo Vitug Jr., assigned with the TMG-Motorcycle Unit, was being linked to the crime, he immediately directed his men to present the TMG policeman at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory to undergo paraffin test.
Palad also directed that Vitug's service firearm, a caliber .45 pistol, be submitted for ballistics' examination. The results will be ready by Monday.
"When I was informed that he (Vitug) is being linked to the crime, I immediately ordered that he undergo paraffin test at the PNP Crime Lab and his service firearm be subjected to ballistics' examination. I also ordered him to make himself available anytime to police officers investigating the massacre," Palad said.
But Vitug denied involvement in the massacre and said he is ready to face any inquiry.
He initially claimed that he and one of the victims George Vitug-Castro are first cousins.
Vitug's father is the brother of George's mother.
Prior to the massacre, George attended the wake of Vitug's father and subsequently slept at Vitug's residence.
Unknown to the policeman, George took his PNP Item Card, which he is no longer using, and other police paraphernalia that were inside the room in their (Vitug's) house where George slept.
Palad said, they deserved to be cleared if found innocent but the TMG would never be a hindrance as well to the investigation being conducted on the crime.
"That is why I immediately ordered that Vitug undergo examinations at the PNP Crime Lab purposely to help in the investigation and also to determine whether or not SPO1 Vitug has a hand in the massacre. We will not tolerate our men to be involved in criminal acts but they also deserved to be cleared if they are found innocent," Palad added.
