GAPO, ALL-SET FOR SIBIT-SIBIT FESTIVAL

The Olongapo City Government is now all-set for the celebration of the Sibit-Sibit Festival this summer.

Through the initiative of Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr., the City Tourism Office has laid out the line of activities for the 2008 Sibit-Sibit Festival on April 25-27 at Driftwood Beach in Brgy. Barretto.

The city’s three-day summer event has been fully packed with different exciting activities. The festival will start with a Sibit-Sibit Festival Motorcade. It will be followed by non-stop fun on the first day including the Sibit-Sibit Show Sail and Fluvial Parade, Drum and Lyre Showcase, Boat Rowing Competition, Bangkang Buhangin Sculpting Contest, and Presentation and Talent Night of Mr. and Ms. Summer Icon candidates.

The excitement will continue on the second day where activities such as Sailing Competition, Di-Gaud Competition, Summer Beach Volleyball, Bonggo Bingo Bonanza and Summer Dance Craze will be held. The last day is like wise fun-filled with the Motorized Banca Race, Motorized Exhibition Game, Awarding Ceremonies for Boat Competition and Grand Finals Night of the Search for Mr.&Ms. Summer Icon.

Sibit-Sibit Festival is an annual event held in Olongapo to depict the rich history of the city. ‘Sibit-Sibit” is a word derived from the legend of Ulo ng Apo which tells of the small paddle banca used for fishing, as Olongapo was a fishing village. In the past fiestas, fishermen held banca races using man-paddled Sibit-Sibit.
