NEW FIRE CHIEF AND FIRE PREVENTION MONTH
Olongapo City kicked-off the observation of March as Fire Prevention Month through a motorcade along the major avenues of the city.
Fire trucks and emergency cars with sirens blaring led the lively motorcade that conveyed this year’s Fire Prevention Month theme “Prevent Fire – Be informed. Get involved.”
Aside from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the motorcade was spearheaded by the City Disaster Coordinating Council (CDCC) with the Disaster Management Office (DMO) with the support of Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr.
Meanwhile, as the city welcomed March as fire prevention month, Mayor Gordon introduced Major Nelson Feliciano, the new fire chief of BFP-Olongapo, in the flag raising ceremony held last March 3 at the Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Covered Court as.
“March is supposed to be fire prevention month. In reality, however, fire incidents tend to increase during and around the month of March. In this regard, I challenge Major Feliciano as the new fire chief to make March a really fire prevention month,” Mayor Gordon dared.
“I am accepting the challenge of the mayor to decrease if not eliminate fire cases in Olongapo not only every March but for the whole year, in effect, making Olongapo really a fire free city,” Feliciano responded.
Presidential Proclamation No. 115-A declared March as fire prevention month.
