Olongapo City school wins six international awards

'THE six projects of a public high school in Olongapo City won awards in the recently concluded Classroom and Excellence Awards given out by the Singapore-based Asia Europe Foundation.

Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said the triumph of the Olongapo City National High School confirmed that Philippine public high schools can be competitive in the global arena.

The awards were for outstanding on-line learning platforms or virtual classrooms and the lessons and activities were discussed by participating member-countries through the Internet.

Lapus lauded the high school and its principal, Dr. Helen Aggabao, for the three entries recognized under the Classsroom Awards and another three under the Excellence Awards.

“We are starting to reap the benefits of our efforts to integrate technology in teaching and learning,” Lapus said.

The school’s Web site entries that won the Classroom Awards are: “Culture Kaleidoscope 2007,” “Mastering Media – The Sequel” and “Young Diplomats.”

Given the Excellence Awards are “Asia and Europe Money,” “Local Traditions and Ceremonies—Forms of Theatre” and “The World in a Book 2006.”

According to Aggabao, the winning projects were implemented in each participating country and lessons and activities were discussed through the Net.
