SUPPLEMENTAL FEEDING IN IRAM

The “6 Months Supplemental Feeding Program” of the City Social Welfare and Development Office together with the Olongapo City Nutrition Council has started last September 15, 2008 in Iram Resettlement Area.

Sixty (60) malnourished children ages three to six years old were identified and selected to avail of the feeding program.

“Ang ating target ay ‘malnourished children’, gusto natin silang agapan, ayaw nating tumuloy tuloy ang pagiging malnourished nila. ‘So this feeding is to supplement’ ang kanilang tini-take sa bahay”, Gene Eclarino said.

This project, which is part of the program of Mayor James”Bong” Gordon Jr. for the youth, aims to inform the parents of the importance of nutritious food and to warn them from giving unhealthy foods to their children.

The feeding program is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Makati, Rotary Club of Olongapo Centennial and Mead Johnson, which donated 234 kilos of milk. A total of One Hundred Twenty Thousand Pesos (P120,000) were donated by the first two sponsors.

The City Nutrition Action Officer, Richelle Torralba is in charge of preparing the menus, Monday to Friday until the project is completed by the third week of February.

Iram Resettlement Area is considered an adopted barangay of the sponsors. Aside from providing lunch for the children, they will also receive milk from the donation of Mead Johnson.

“Mas lalo pa nating paigtingin ang ating samahan para dito sa ating Nutrition activities ng City Government. Dagdagan pa natin ang ating sipag , to promote really on health and nutrition”, Eclarino added.
