GARANTISADONG PAMBATA CAMPAIGN
The Garantisadong Pambata(GP) program of the Department of Health in partnership with the Olongapo City Local Government has started its campaign to reduce childhood illnesses and deaths by promoting positive child care behaviors.
Garantisadong Pambata is conducted twice every year in the months of April and October in the 17 barangays with the support of Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. in cooperation with the DOH and city government officials.
According to City Nutrition Action Officer Rich Torralba, positive caregiving behaviors include exclusive breastfeeding of infants from 0 to 6 months old, feeding infant micronutrient rich complementary foods starting 6 months old, using iodized salt daily, buying and eating fortified foods, brushing of properly and regularly, letting children play safe toys and no smoking infront of preschooler.
Garantisadong Pambata services also include giving Vitamin A supplement to all children 1-5 years old, catch –up immunization for those who missed the routine immunization like BCG, DPT, OPV, Measles, distribution of Iron supplements to infants and pregnant women.
City Nutrition Action Officer Richel Eve Torralba said Garantisadong Pambata ensures all children ages five years old below will receive proper health services needed to grow healthy. Children who live in remote places are given special attention during Garantisadong Pambata Week.
“Ang Garantisadong Pambata ay nagpapalawak ng kaalaman, kakayahang matuto for better educational and school performance,” Torralba said.
