Hitachi to build warehouse in Subic
SUBIC BAY FREEPORT, Philippines — Japanese electronics maker Hitachi Terminals Mechatronics (Phils.) Corp., is building a warehouse facility as part of its expansion project here.
Hitachi Terminals President Kiyotaka Adachi said the company would spend an additional $1 million to build the warehouse at the Subic Techno Park and boost production. The company makes automated teller machines.
"It is a good sign for [Hitachi Terminals], which is [trying] to compete in the world market despite the financial woes besetting economies worldwide," he said. Building the facility, he added, would improve efficiency.
Ramon Agregado, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority senior deputy administrator, said Hitachi ranked third among the top exporters in Subic last year, with a total export value of $54.21 million.
The firm was also ranked eighth among the top importers, with a total import value of more than $24 million. It was the eighth biggest employer in the freeport with 703 workers.
