P4.2M medicines from China seized
SAN MARCELINO, Zambales Philippines --Agents of the Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group on Wednesday seized $90,000 (P4.23 million) worth of medicines imported from China through the Subic Bay Freeport south of here.
The stocks were found in a 20-foot container at the free port’s naval supply depot on October 2, Undersecretary Antonio Villar Jr., PASG chief, said.
The medicines consisted mostly of unlabelled capsules and pills.
“That’s a possibility that these may be stuffed with other drugs,’” Villar told the Philippine Daily Inquirer by phone.
He said he has ordered an investigation and has asked the Bureau of Food and Drugs to help them.
Import documents showed that the items were brought in by a registered locator at the free port. The container arrived last week, it was learned. By Tonette Orejas - Inquirer Central Luzon Desk
