Olongapo Subic Trade Mission
DELEGATES FROM PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY ON A TRADE MISSION
The delegates of the Prince George’s County Trade Mission to Asia from Maryland, U.S.A arrived in Olongapo City on October 7, 2008, headed by Hon. Kriselda Valderrama, member of the State of Maryland House of Delegates.
The delegates were welcomed by Olongapo City Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon Jr. at the Olongapo City Hall.
Also joining the welcome party were Vice Mayor Cynthia Cajudo, City Councilors Gina Perez, Edwin Piano, Nathan Manalo, Ellen Dabu, Elmo Aquino, and Jhong Cortez, barangay captains, department heads and students, teachers and principals from the different schools of the city.
Also part of the Trade Mission delegates present during the breakfast were Corazon Dones of International Food Franchises, Zenaida Bombasi of Airline and Import-Export Management, Roland Lee, Chairman of the International Chamber of Asian/African/American Business Executives, David Valderrama, Economic Development Consultant of Prince George’s County and Imelda Abella, Community Relations Liason of Prince George’s County.
During the breakfast, a programme was held which featured an open forum, cultural presentations and video presentations showing the city’s rich and colorful history and the astounding feats and achievements of Olongapenos. The delegates were amazed with the accomplishments made by Olongapo, especially with the awards that the city has been receiving lately.
After the breakfast, the delegates went on with a tour of the city.
Prince George’s County focused on the Philippines over other countries for various reasons including the remarkable growth of its economy.
“The main purpose of this trip is to bring together stakeholders from business and the government in order to enhance the mutual international commercial relations between the Philippines and Prince George’s County,” Johnson said in his letter to Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon Jr.
Olongapo City is one of the targets of Prince George’s County to introduce business opportunities and cultural exports with. It is expected that the visit will produce strong ties between the city and Prince George’s County and will pave way to open new markets such as food franchises, commerce and trade
Prince George’s County is the second wealthiest county in Maryland and is the wealthiest county of foreign-born Americans in the United States. The county aims to create a comprehensive business strategy centered in global markets.
