‘GAPO, WINS EXHIBIT CONTEST
Olongapo City was among the winners in the Exhibit Contest of the North Philippines Tourism and Travel Expo 2008 at the Event Center, SM City Clark, Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga. Olongapo placed 3rd out of the 20 in the “Best LGU Booth” category.
Kaye Reyes, City Tourism Officer and colleagues exhibited various photos of tourist destinations in Olongapo City. Flyers, brochures and other informative materials were also distributed featuring different establishments in the city. A video presentation entitled, “Olongapo , A City for the Future” was shown as part of the exhibit that was held on November 14-16, 2008.
The North Tourism and Travel Expo (Northphil Expo 2008) combines the strength and tourism potentials of the four (4) Regions of the North, Region I-Ilocos, Region 2-Cagayan Valley, Region 3- Central Luzon and CAR-Cordillera Region.
The three-day event features the “Best of North Philippines” in terms of tourism destinations, products and services. One of its objectives was to promote the different tourist destinations of the country and to encourage inter-island tourism.
According to Reyes, “ang pagsali ng Olongapo sa ganitong tourism expo ay makatutulong ng malaki sa tourism industry ng Lungsod dahil maipapakita ang mga magagandang lugar, produkto at services nito sa ibang bahagi ng bansa”.
The Tourism and Travel Expo 2008 with the theme, “Go North! A Wellspring of Diversity” is supported by the various local and private sectors and LGU’s like the Philippine Tourism Authority, Provincial Government of Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Clark Development Corporation, Clark International Airport Corporation, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, Manila North Tollways Corporation , Central Broadcasting Corporation, Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation, Sunstar Pampanga and Punto Central Luzon.
