Samal Bataan Mayor, councilors Suspended
A BATAAN mayor and his three councilors were suspended for 90 days for graft.
The Sandiganbayan Fourth Division, in a 10-page resolution, has ordered the suspension of Samal, Bataan Mayor Rolando Tigas and councilors Clemencio Abella, Hercules Llanda and Rafael Guinto.
The four were accused of receiving P513,000 in commission from the sale of two lots in Samal, Bataan.
“Accused public officials are directed to cease and desist from exercising the functions and privileges of their office for 90 days immediately upon receipt of this resolution,” the Sandiganbayan said.
The anti-graft court has ordered Bataan Gov. Enrique Garcia to implement the preventive suspension order.
“The Governor of the province of Bataan is directed to implement the preventive suspension of the accused public officers for 90 days. The Governor is also directed to inform this Court of the action taken with regard to the suspension of the accused public officers within 5 days from the receipt of this resolution,” the resolution said.
The Sandiganbayan said the suspension order will ensure that the accused can not use their position and power to influence the proceedings of the case. By: Jester P. Manalastas - Journal Online
