Mining firm, TESDA forge pact to train OSYs, adults for employment
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and MTL Mining Ltd. recently made an agreement to train villagers in Quezon town for employment in the country.
Manuel Hiadan, TESDA provincial director said they have initially trained 24 welders where 4 trainees were already sent to for employment in Polar Marine Company while 20 others will be sent to the Korean Han Jin Industries, both in Subic in Olongapo City.
"Because of the need of welders, we have recently coordinated with various local and international companies in Subic for possible employment of our trainees," Hiadan said.
He said that Han Jin Industries, the biggest ship manufacturing company in the world is in need of 2,000 welders by October this year.
Because of the huge demand of workers, Hiadan said TESDA and MTL Mining Ltd. has agreed to establish a training center for welding, masonry, heavy equipment, dressmaking and agriculture in Quezon town to cater to interested OSYs and adults for employment in Subic and other areas in the country.
"In fact, on July 18, we will be launching three projects namely; the expanded Plant for Life, Compact farming and the training center projects," Hiadan added.
The training center which will be constructed in barangay Runruno will be managed by the Runruno Livelihood Foundation which was organized by Metals Exploration.
With the training center, Hiadan said more workers in the province will be sent for employment and therefore contribute to government’s programs designed to address unemployment in the country. (PIA NVizcaya)
