New container terminal inaugurated

Subic Bay Freeport -- The President's 10-point agenda has come to reality here in terms of developoing Subic Bay as a regional logistics hub.

Today President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo leads the inauguration of New Container Terminal 1, the first phase of the $215-million Subic Port Modernization project.

The project is being implemented by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, making this Freeport a major container port in the country.

This project includes installation of four gantry cranes from Japan, two were installed already last May 2006, and the other two March 2007.In this package are the construction of modern container terminals, and the two berths measuring 280 meters in length with a depth of 13 meters.

The completion of this will boost confidence of the freeport as a major player in containerized and non-containerized cargo handling business in the Asia Pacific Region, thus decongesting the Port of Manila. Further this will also complement Diosdado Macapagal Internationa Airport, (DMIA), Subic-Clark Toll Road, and the Hanjin ShipBuilding. (PIA Zambales)
