US envoy in Manila elated by developments in Clark
CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga: United States Charge d’Affaires in Manila Paul W. Jones was impressed with the multidimensional developments being undertaken by the Clark Development Corp. (CDC) to promote more economic activities and generate jobs.
The development made quite an impression to Jones because of the entry of American firms to Clark and witnessing on Thursday the groundbreaking rites, led by President Arroyo, of Texas Instruments Philippines’ $1-billion modern test and expansion assembly site of semiconductor chips. Texas Instruments is expected to provide 3,000 direct jobs when fully working.
Jones said the developments in Clark—including both economic and political situations—will be among the reasons why more US investors will be eyeing Clark, the former US-run military base, as their next investment destination.
Jones was also impressed with the development of Clark International Airport, infrastructure projects, leisure, entertainment and resort for tourism programs, and improvement of important utilities—primary enabler of the programs of the CDC complimenting President Arroyo’s goals of more economic and employment activities before her term ends in 2010.
There are 22 US firms in Clark at present who are involved in Information Technology (IT), business process outsourcing and manufacturing among others.
Jones, the guest speaker at the Pampanga Press Club and Capampangan in Media, Inc. joint interaction activity, was also elated after attending comprehensive presentation made by the CDC and the Clark International Airport Corp.
Jones is the deputy chief of mission for the US Embassy in Manila and a career member of the State Department’s Senior Foreign Service.
