RP-US to start military exercises Monday

The Armed Forces of the Philippines and the US military will conduct joint military exercises and community outreach activities starting Monday, October 15, the US Embassy in Manila announced Wednesday.

The annual joint military exercises called Talon Vision and Amphibious Landing Exercise are designed "to improve interoperability between US forces and the Armed Forces of the Philippines as well as increase readiness and strengthen the professional relationships between the two countries," a press release issued by the Embassy said.

About 6,500 Filipino and American personnel are expected to participate in the exercises, which will run from October 15 to 31.

"Community outreach projects" are also scheduled, including the repair of school buildings, the painting of classrooms in schools in the Olongapo-Subic Bay area.

Free medical and dental clinics will be held in Capas, Tarlac (Crow Valley), Palayan City, Nueva Ecija, Ternate, Cavite, and Laguna.

US Marines from the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Unit, III Marine Expeditionary Force from Okinawa, Japan, and US sailors from the Essex Expeditionary Strike Group, Task Force 76, from Sasebo, Japan, will participate in both ground-air and naval integration training with the Philippine Armed Forces. - GMANews.TV
