Firm turns over educational cable TV for school children
SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — Philip Morris Philippines Manufacturing Inc. (PMPMI), one of the new business locators in this free port, has donated educational cable television to public schools in Olongapo City.
Firm turns over educational cable TV for school children
PMPMI managing director Chris Nelson and Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) president Rina LopezBautista turned over the donation last Monday to representatives of Kalaklan Integrated School and Gordon Heights Elementary School II, both in Olongapo City, the Castillejos Elementary School in Zambales, and the Pastolan Elementary School, which is located in an upland Aeta community.
The simple donation ceremony, which took place during the inauguration of PMPMI’s P30-million regional leaf warehouse last Monday, was graced by Sen. Richard Gordon, Buhay party-list Rep. Carissa Coscolluela, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman Feliciano Salonga, and SBMA Administrator Armand Arreza.
Aside from television sets linked to satellite disk or cable network, the recipients also received textbooks on science and mathematics for the school children.
Nelson said the educational program can help spur economic development in a community by boosting the learning capacity of children.
In a way, the Knowledge Channel also helps strengthen the quality of the community’s future work force, he added.
Bautista, who is also executive director of the non-profit KCFI, noted the impact that the Knowledge Channel has been making on recipient schools and communities.
In some instances, the program had helped convince elders to shift from livelihood activities that destroy the environment after their children watched some Knowledge Channel programs, Bautista said.
Meanwhile, Olongapo Schools Division Superintendent Ligaya Monato said that Knowledge Channel can revolutionize the learning opportunities for students and enhance retention 20 times better than the "old fashioned discussion" because of the intensified learning environment.
