Same gun used in 'Gapo massacre, rob spree

The pistol seized from the young men who robbed two houses and gang-raped a 17-year-old girl here on April 5, is the same gun used in the massacre of four people, including an FHM model, in Olongapo City on March 13.

Senior Supt. Keith Singian, provincial police director, was referring to the Charles Daly .45-cal. pistol, with serial number 131032, seized from Ferdinand Caderas, 21, of Block 6, Bliss Compound in Bgy. Mauway; and John Ariel Santos, 23, of Buhayang Bato, Bgy. Ilaya, both from Mandaluyong City.

The two, along with three other companions, who eluded arrest, invaded two houses in a subdivision here, hogtied their victims, gang- raped a girl and carted away P900,000 worth of belongings between 10:30 p.m. on April 4 and 1:40 a.m. on April 5.

Singian said ballistic testing in Camp Olivas here had confirmed that the pistol was the same gun used in the killing of FHM model Scarlet Garcia, 22; her cousin Rachelle Estacio, 20; George Castor Jr. and a certain Von Marck Fondejas in a townhouse in Gordon Heights, Olongapo City, on March 13.

Caderas, Santos and their companions entered Villa Corazon Subd. at 10:30 p.m. on April 4 and parked their car in front of the residence of 44-year-old Cora Dayrit on Ilang-Ilang St.

The three other suspects were later identified as Henry Cheng Fong of San Juan, Metro Manila; Benny Crisologo of Vigan, Ilocos Sur; and Anthony Benipayo of Bgy. Pembo, Makati City.

The suspects barged into the house and hogtied Dayrit, her son, and her son’s three visitors.

The suspects herded the victims into a bedroom and ransacked the house, taking jewelry, cell phones, grocery items, and other belongings worth P100,000.

Three of the suspects took turns in raping the female visitor.

After the rape, four of the suspects proceeded to the nearby residence of City Councilor Raul Macalino at the corner of Ilang-Ilang and Jasmin Sts. The fifth suspect stayed in Dayrit’s residence.

The suspects forcibly entered the councilor’s house, hurt Macalino’s wife and children, placed them inside a room, and took their cell phones, jewelry, cash, a laptop computer, and other belongings worth P800,000. Bernard Galang - Journal online
