Low-pressure area in Zambales intensifies

Pagasa: Low-pressure area intensifies, threatens 14 provinces

The low-pressure area near Zambales province has intensified into an active low-pressure area (ALPA) and is threatening at least 14 areas in Southern Luzon and Visayas.

In a weather advisory Tuesday night, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned residents there to take precautions against floods and landslides.

"This weather disturbance will continue to bring occasional to frequent rains over Southern Luzon and Visayas which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said.

As of 8:30 p.m., it said the ALPA was estimated at 340 kms west-southwest of Iba, Zambales.

"Residents in low-lying and mountainous areas are advised to take all necessary precautions against possible flashfloods and landslides," it added.

Provinces forecast to experience frequent rains include Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Romblon, Marinduque, Mindoro provinces, Palawan, Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, and Leyte provinces. - GMANews.TV
