Taiwan mission to boost Subic, Clark investments

THE Manila Economic and Cultural Office and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Taipei will hold a five-day investment mission in Taiwan this week to promote investment opportunities in Subic and Clark free ports.

Dita Angara-Mathay, MECO director for commercial affairs, said in a letter to the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority that the Philippine investment mission in Taipei and Kaohsiung will be held until June 14. The mission started on June 10.

The Philippine delegation is headed by MECO Chairman Tomas Alcantara and Ambassador Antonio Basillo, who is MECO resident representative in Taiwan.

Delegates include MECO board members, SBMA Administrator and CEO Armand Arreza, Philip Jose Panlilio, Clark Development Corporation executive vice president and chief operating officer, and Victor Jose Luciano, president and CEO of Clark International Airport Corporation.

Mathay said the mission will highlight investment opportunities in the Philippine ICT (information and communications technology), light manufacturing, aviation, logistics and shipbuilding sectors in Clark and Subic.

During the investment seminar in Kaohsiung , the SBMA will present its master plan of development and the existing and nascent investment opportunities for Taiwanese business inside the Subic freeport, Mathay added.

The Philippine delegates are also meeting key officials representing topnotch industries in the island economy after MECO secured the support of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs for the five-day mission.

Mathay said that among the largest Taiwanese business organizations joining the economic conference are the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association, Chinese National Association of Industry and Commerce, Taipei Hsien Computer Association, Taipei Computer Association, and Taiwan Shipbuilding Association.
