“Plastic bags littered along roadside drains cause street flooding during heavy rainfall. Plastic wastes likewise kill one million sea birds, 100,000 sea mammals and countless fish every year,” paliwanag ni Bichara.

“The Philippine government has a duty to protect the national environment and take an active role in safeguarding the health of its citizen to combat the pernicious effects of the wanton destruction of our natural resour-ces,” ani Bichara.

Sinabi ni Bichara na dapat ilagay ang lahat ng pondong malilikom sa panukala sa taunang pondo ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

“A person’s use of plastic bags may be counted in minutes but a plastic bag takes between 15 to 1,000 years to be broken down by the environment,” ani Bichara. By Ryan Ponce Pacpaco - Journal Online
