“PWDs I.Ds”

Two Hundred (200) Persons with Disability received their Identification cards (I.Ds) from the Office of Persons with Disability Affairs (OPDA) recently.

Also distributed were Purchase Cards that they can use to avail of discounts on medicine, transportation, goods and other services.

In connection with this, an election of Officers of the Tindahan Natin Operators, NFA Benefeciaries, Olongapo City was held. The group is the lead organization in the distribution of NFA Rice for PWDs. Elected president was Gloria Gaspar, an active member of OPDA.

Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. congratulated the elected officers of the Organization. He also encouraged the PWDs to contribute in the development of the City. This includes helping in maintaining the cleanliness that would surely boost tourism in the City. “May we have fruitful years for PWDs in Olongapo” Gordon added.

“The 31st National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week”

The Olongapo’s Office of Persons with Disability (OPDA) will lead the observance of the 31st National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week from July 20-25, 2009. This year’s theme is “Tungo sa Katuparan ng Karapatan ng PWD’s”.

“There will be a week-long celebration for this event and we created this to remove the barrier between us and the PWD’s. We want to make them feel that they are part of the society”, Mayor James “Bong” Gordon said.

Mayor James “Bong” Gordon created the Office of Persons with Disability (OPDA) in Olongapo to conduct programs and services to serve disabled Olongapenos. The services include the issuance of identification cards and purchase cards which entitles Persons with Disability (PWDs) to avail of discounts on transportation, medicine, goods and other services. PWRd are also given livelihood assistance, trainings and sports development to assure them that they are a part of the community, worthy of the respect, trust and confidence that they deserve.


The activities in the celebration of the 31st National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week are the following:

JLGMH’S OPD AND MEDICAL ARTS BUILDING, INAUGURATED

City Mayor James “Bong” Gordon Jr. and Olongapo First Lady and Zambales Vice Governor Anne Marie Gordon, recently inaugurated the new Out Patient Department (OPD) and Medical Arts Building of James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital (JLGMH). The inauguration was held in conjunction with the commemoration of the 42nd Cityhood of Olongapo.

Vice Mayor Cynthia Cajudo and Dr. Arturo Mendoza, Chief of Hospital, JLGMH, joined the City’s first couple in leading the inauguration.

“Ang bagong OPD/Medical Arts building ay may three (3) floors na may mga modern facilities tulad ng para sa sports medicine, women and children’s health protection at chemotherapy unit para sa mga cancer patients,” explained Dr. Mendoza.

The new OPD building was made in order to give faster and more efficient service.

The OPD/Medical Arts Building has an additional twenty-four (24) private rooms and eight (8) beds for a semi-private room. A canteen will also be located inside the building.

“Magkakaroon din sa building ng mga doctor’s offices para hindi na mahirapang maghanap ng mga doctors ang mga pasyente,” Dr. Mendoza added.

“Ang kalusugan ay isa sa mga pangunahing programa ni Mayor Gordon. Ang pagdadagdag ng bagong building ay hindi lamang makakapag-pabuti ng serbisyo ng ospital kung hindi makakatulong din sa pag-generate ng income para sa ikabubuti ng buong lungsod,” Mendoza said.
