Times’ language institute, Hopkins sign agreement
The Manila Times Language Institute and the Hopkins International Partners Inc. signed an agreement on Thursday that would make English-language proficiency testing more accessible in Central Luzon. Under the agreement, the language institute and Hopkins designated two of its affiliated companies in Subic and Pampanga—the Global City Innovative Subic International College and The Manila Times Skills Training Institute—as the official testing sites for the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC). Michael Alexander Ang, the institute’s managing director, and Hopkins President Corina Unson signed the agreement.
TOEIC is an English-language proficiency test for people whose native language is not English. It is usually taken by non-English speaking foreign nationals or professionals seeking to work abroad.
“We are very optimistic and excited about this partnership with The Manila Times Language Institute because with this, we will be able to reach more people beyond the Metro Manila area,” Unson said.
“Not only our organization will benefit from this, but also the students from The Manila Times Language Institute since this will actually enhance the institute’s courses of study,” she added.
Ang said the partnership with Hopkins will indeed be advantageous, as the students will not only get the training but will also be provided with the opportunity of getting accreditation from an internationally recognized testing organization.
Hopkins, which prides itself as the official Philippine TOEIC representative, conducts language proficiency tests daily and occasionally conducts on-site testing for large groups. The organization offers efficient testing facilities that are at par with the standards set by the Educational Testing Service, assuring the results of its TOEIC tests are recognized worldwide.
The Manila Times Language Institute, on the other hand, offers a computerized English course, which teaches students to speak clear, understandable and correct English to provide them with better career opportunities abroad
