ICTSI unit starts running container terminal in Subic
Port operator International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) said its Subic Bay International Container Terminal Corp. (SBITC) subsidiary was set to service its first vessel at the Subic Bay Freeport’s New Container Terminal-1 on Wednesday.
ICTSI said in a disclosure to the stock exchange that SBITC had fulfilled all conditions set by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) for the takeover of New Container Terminal-1 (NCT-1) under a 25-year concession.
It said SBITC received last year a notice from the SBMA legal department saying that no proposal was submitted to challenge SBITC’s bid for NCT-1.
ICTSI said SBITC would buy 22 prime movers, five forklifts, four rubber tired gantry cranes, three yard vehicles and three vehicles to support the two SBMA-owned quay cranes installed at the NCT-1.
The terminal can handle a maximum of 300,000 twenty-foot equivalent units per year, it said.
Last Tuesday, ICTSI said it was awarded a 25-year concession contract to operate and manage the Mindanao Container Terminal. Riza T. Olchondra; edited by INQUIRER.net
