OPENING CEREMONIES NG 3RD POF – CNL QUALIFYING GAMES

Binuksan ang 3rd Philippine Olympics Festival (POF) Central-Northern Luzon Qualifying Games sa pamamagitan ng Torch Run at Ceremonial Lighting of the Torch na pinangunahan nina Olongapo City Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. at Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman Feliciano Salonga sa Remy Field sa Subic Bay Freeport Zone nitong ika-2 ng Abril.

Sa paglulunsad ng POF Qualifying Games sa Olongapo at SBFZ, sinimulan ni Mayor Bong Gordon ang Torch Run mula sa harap ng City Hall. Kasama sina City Councilors Rodel Cerezo at Jong Cortez, City Sports Consultant Kerwin McCoy at Atty. Ramon Agregado ng SBMA na humalili sa punong lungsod sa pagdadala sa sulo na simbulo ng palaro.

Nagtapos ang Torch Run sa Remy Field kung saan ginanap ang opening ceremonies ng POF Qualifying Games sa pamamagitan ng Ceremonial Lighting of the Torch na pinangunahan nina Mayor Gordon at SBMA Chairman Feliciano Salonga. Kasama sina POF Committee President Jose “Peping” Cojuangco, POF Chair Robert Aventajado, International Olympics Committee Representative Frank Elizalde at ilan pang mga opisyal ng city government at SBMA.

Mainit na sinalubong nina Mayor Gordon at SBMA Chairman Salonga ang may mahigit isang libo’t limang daang (1,500) delegado mula sa iba’t ibang panig ng Hilaga at Gitnang Luzon kabilang na ang Bulacan, Baguio, Olongapo, Angeles City, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, La Union, Ilocos Norte, Cagayan Valley, Abra, Benguet, Ifugao at Tarlac.

Sa opening ceremonies, pumarada sa Oval Track ng Remy Field ang mga atleta at coaches ng bawat delegasyon. Sabay-sabay ring itinaas ang bandila ng Pilipinas, SBMA flag, Olongapo City Government flag, POC flag at POF flag bilang simbolo ng ‘joint efforts’ ng Olympics Committee, city government at SBMA upang matagumpay na maidaos ang palaro.

Samantala, ilan sa mga sports events na gaganapin sa lungsod at Freeport ay aquatics, muay, powerlifting, sepak takraw, taekwondo, volleyball, archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, gymnastics, karatedo, softball, table tennis, taekwondo, and beach volleyball. Tatagal ang POF Central-Northern Luzon hanggang ika-6 ng Abril 2008.

Ang mga magwawagi sa naturang Qualifying Games ay magiging kinatawan naman sa Misamis Oriental para sa National Championships sa ika-20-26 ng Oktubre 2008. Magkakaroon rin ng qualifying games sa Lanao del Norte para sa Mindanao Qualifying Games sa ika-21-25 ng Mayo 2008, Manila para sa NCR Qualifying Games sa ika-25-29 ng HunHunyo 2008, Negros Oriental para sa Visayas Qualifying Games sa ika-23-27 ng Hulyo 2008, sa Trace College sa Laguna para sa Bicol-Southern Tagalog Qualifying Games sa ika-10-14 ng Setyembre 2008.

Layunin ng POF na makapagsanay ng mga atletang may potensyal na makalahok sa 2012 London Summer Olympic Games.
