PWD ID CARDS
Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon Jr. handed out ID cards to Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) on September 16, 2008 at the lobby of the Olongapo City Hall. Joining him in handing out the ID cards were City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) chair Gene Eclarino and Councilor Ellen Dabu.
The cards were given to PWDs of all ages to enable them to avail of the benefits and privileges PWDs are entitled to and to recognize and respect their rights.
In his message, Mayor Gordon encouraged the PWDs to enagage in livelihood projects and become model citizens despite their disabilities.
Maraming salamat po!” said Glenda Cajulis, a mother of a child with a disability.
The ID cards are in accordance with Resolution No. 56, Series of 2008 passed by the Sanguniang Panglungsod. The resolution supports and implements R.A. 9442 or an ‘Act Amending R.A. 7277 Otherwise Known as the ‘Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities as Amended and for Other Purposes’’.
The PWD ID cards enables PWDS to avail of certain privileges and benefits including 20% discount in the purchase of medicines, dental and medical service, hotels, and restaurants and recreation centers. The card is recognized nationwide.
