Stroke Society holds its 8th Annual Convention in Olongapo

Stroke Society of the Philippines holds its 8th Annual Convention: Empowering the community for optimal stroke care

WITH the mission of helping the country lower the incidence of stroke, reduce the prevalence and death rate from stroke, and improve the quality of life of those who suffered from stroke, the Stroke Society of the Philippines was founded on July 13, 1995.

Through the years, membership in the society increased and chapters were established. Today, the Stroke Society of the Philippines has chapters in Central Luzon, Dumaguete, and Davao. To provide its members with new information on stroke, the SSP has been holding annual conferences on Brain Attack since 1999. This year, in observance of the Brain Attack Awareness Week, the Stroke Society of the Philippines, in cooperation with the Department of Health will hold its 8th Annual Convention on August 16-18 in Olongapo City with the theme "SSP Goes to Central Luzon, Empowering the Community for Optimal Stroke Care."

The first day of the convention will be highlighted with a post-graduate course for medical practitioners, nurses, and physical therapists, on "Stroke, The Essentials." A lay forum for stroke victors, caregivers, and the public will also be held. Discussions in the plenary sessions, symposiums, and workshops will focus on practical tips on stroke prevention, redefining thrombolytic options beyond the three-hour time window, cardio-embolic stroke, new modalities in stroke imaging, the role of stroke nurse for triage to rehab, stroke in special population, complementary and alternative treatments for stroke, and the spectrum of blood pressure management in stroke. The three-day event will also feature the SSP Fellowship Night, the SSP Business Meeting and the awarding of the winner of the SSP stroke research contest.

We congratulate the Officers and Members of the Board of Trustees of the Stroke Society of the Philippines, headed by its President, Ester S. Bitanga, other Officers and Members, on the occasion of their Eighth Annual Convention and wish them success in all their endeavors
