PGMA confers awards on 2007 lupong tagapamayapa winners
Most Outstanding Lupong Tagapamayapa in Highly-Urbanized Cities: National and Hall of Fame Awardee was Barangay Barretto of Olongapo City
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo led yesterday the conferment of awards on outstanding barangay dispute-mediator councils or lupong tagapamayapa that have shown exemplary performance in promoting peace, harmony and solidarity in their areas of responsibility in simple rites held at Malacanang's Rizal Hall.
The 2007 Lupong Tagapamayapa awardees:
For the Most Outstanding Lupong Tagapamayapa in Highly-Urbanized Cities: National and Hall of Fame Awardee was Barangay Barretto of Olongapo City; First Runner-Up was Narangay Middle Quezon Hill of Baguio City; and, Second Runner-Up was Barangay Sasa 43 of Buhangin District in Davao City.
For the Most Outstanding Lupong Tagapamayapa in Component Cities: National and Hall of Fame Awardee was Barangay Washington of Surigao City; First Runner-up was Barangay Pedro Colina of Cotabato City; and, Second Runner-up was Barangay San Agustin of Iriga City.
For the Most Outstanding Lupong Tagapamayapa in 1st to 3rd class municipalities: National and Hall of Fame Awardee was Barangay Lamao of Limay, Bataan; First Runner-up was Barangay Sabang North of Borongan, Samar; and, Second Runner-up was Barangay Poblacion of La Trinidad in Benguet.
For the Most Outstanding Lupong Tagapamayapa in 4th and 6th class municipalities: National and Hall of Fame Awardee was Barangay Hingatungan of Silago of Southern Leyte; First Runner-up was Barangay Special District of Jala-Jala of Rizal ; and, Second Runner-up was Baranagay Quezon of Mainit in Surigao del Norte.
The winners received cash awards and presidential trophies.
The winners were adjudged to be exemplary in their respective category in terms of efficiency in operations, effectiveness in securing the objectives of the Katarungang Pambarangay, and creativity and resourcefulness of the mediators.
The Lupong Tagapamayapa, now on its 17th year, has served as a mechanism in bringing into the consciousness of the Philippine society the effectiveness of the lupong tagapamayapa in promoting peace and harmony in the grassroots level. (PIA)
