OLONGAPO BARANGAY KAGAWAD ELECTED IN THE NAT’L LEAGUE

Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. lauded Barangay Kagawad Marlon Austria of East Tapinac, Olongapo City for having been elected as secretary general of the Barangay Councilors League of the Philippines (BCLP).

Austria was elected during the 2009 National Executive Council Assembly held at Crown Regency Residences in V. Rama Avenue, Guadalupe, Cebu City recently.


As Secretary General, Austria is ranked third in the said organization. He also chairs the Committee on Laws, Rules and Ethics of BCLP.

“Ganyan dapat ang mga taga-Olongapo, conquering other territories,” Gordon remarked.
Austria is the incumbent president of the BCLP-Olongapo City Chapter. He was also the Secretary General of the said chapter in 2004.

BCLP is a national organization of the elected barangay councilors in the country whose goal is to promote and expand the potentials and competencies of all its members in their respective communities.

The assembly’s objective was to strengthen and maximize the roles of barangay councilors as duly elected public servants in the community.

Other elected officers are Julio Jaime of Parañaque City as national president; Crisanto Ramos (Batangas), executive vice president; Juliet Cunanan (Gen. Santos City), treasurer; Danilo Quijano (Isabela), VP-Luzon; Manuel Guanzon (Cebu), VP-Visayas; Bacar Abo (Sultan Kudarat), VP-Mindanao; Raymond Balagapo (Tacloban), auditor; and Lolita M. Nantes (Naga City), public relations officer.

Austria immediately extended an invitation to Senator Richard Gordon to be the adviser of BCLP which the senator graciously accepted.

BCLP-OC SEMINAR ON PARLIAMENTARY AT FMA HALL

The Barangay Councilor’s League of the Philippines- Olongapo City Chapter (BCLP-OC) recently held a Seminar on Parliamentary Procedures and Resolution Making at FMA Hall of the Olongapo City Hall.

The parliamentary seminar focused on the rules of order, ethics and customs governing meetings and other operations of the league.

“Membership of the BCLP-OC does not only include barangay councilors, it also includes barangay captains and officials, city government and national government officials,” Executive Secretary and Adviser Cesar Santiago said. “It is composed of more than one hundred thirty (130) regular, honorary, associate and charter members.”

Late last year , the new set of officers their oath before Mayor James Gordon, Jr. at the Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Center where Mayor Gordon stressed the pursuance of the “One product, One Barangay” livelihood project of the BCLP-OC intended for the residents of Olongapo. “At umasa kayo na buo ang suportang ibibigay ng pamahalaang lokal sa mga livelihood projects na sisimulan ng inyong barangay,’’ Mayor Gordon said during the oathtaking.

The league has already launched projects on credit and loan, burial assistance, scholarship, medical assistance and inter-barangay commercial basketball league. All of these benefit the immediate relatives of the members.

The group is also eyeing to adapt the new system on putting up a computer learning center for each barangay in preparation for the planned creation of a website in order to easily access the ordinances and resolutions to be implemented for each barangay.

The BCLP-OC was founded in 2004, with Cesar Santiago as the founding president.

Pormal nang nanumpa sa katungkulan kay City Mayor James ‘’Bong’’ Gordon, Jr. ang mga bagong halal na opisyales ng Barangay Councilors Leage of the Philippines-Olongapo City Chapter (BCLP-OC).

Ang oath-taking ng mga new sets of officers ng liga ay kaalinsabay sa Flag Raising Ceremony nitong ika-18 ng Agosto 2008 sa Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Center. Kabilang sa mga nanumpa sa kanilang posisyon ay sina:

GABI NG PARANGAL SA MGA ‘’OUTSTANDING OLONGAPEñO’’

Pinarangalan na ang mga natatanging mamamayan ng lungsod na nagpakita ng galing para sa Olongapo at sa mamamayan nito. Ang parangal na tinaguriang ‘’Outstanding Olongapeños’’ na isinagawa nitong ika-15 ng Marso 2007 sa Olongapo City Convention Center (OCCC) ay inorganisa ng Barangay Councilors’ League of the Philippines (BCLP)-Olongapo Chapter.

Ang awards night ay pinangunahan ng BCLP sa pamamagitan ng Presidente nito na si Cesar Santiago, kaagapay ang Dept. of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Olongapo at ng City Government sa pangunguna ni City Mayor James ‘’Bong’’ Godon, Jr.

Iginawad ang tropeyo sa mga sumusunod na kategorya at awardees:

• Law - Atty. Alruela Bundang-Ortiz
• Medicine - Dr. Restituto Acosta
• Education:
Principal - Maritess Calara
- Olongapo City Elementary School

Teacher - Annie Quinoveba
- New Cabalan Elementary School
• Entrepreneur - Oscar Santos
• Non-Government Organization (NGO) – Peninsula Lions Club

Ginawaran rin ng Special Award ang Olongapeñong si Abner Mercado ng programang ‘’The Correspondence’’ ng Abs-Cbn Channel 2 para sa kategoryang Investigative Journalism.

Maliban sa prestiyosong titulo ay tinanggap ng mga awardees ang cash, ‘’Ulo ng Apo’’ trophy at citation samantalang tumanggap rin ang lahat ng mga finalists ng medal of merit.

Naging mahigpit ang pagpiling ginawa ng mga huradong buhat sa ibat-ibang sektor na kinabilangan nina Domingo Cruz na kumatawan sa Senior Citizen, Ferdinand Cruz-Banking and Entrepneur, Gene Eclarino-Social Service, Jay Diaz-Academe at Col. Jose Aquino, Jr. ng PNP-Olongapo.

May puwang rin ang religious sector sa pagpili sa pamamagitan ni Rev. Father Roque Villanueva ng St. Anne Parish at ang Mass Media sa pamamagitan naman ni Retired Col. Jerito Adique.

Samantala, sa pamamagitan ng kanilang naiwanang pamilya ay tinanggap ng pitong (7) namayapang kagawad ang Service Recognition buhat sa BCLP. Iginawad posthumously ang award sa kanila Barangay Kagawad Cornelio Alipio-Brgy. Old Cabalan, Romero Elayda-Brgy. Barretto, Jose Raymundo-Brgy. New Kalalake, Ramon Diwa-Brgy. New Banicain, Aida Rosas-Brgy. Old Cabalan at Cesar Lorenzana ng Brgy. Barretto.

Sa mensahe ni Mayor Bong Gordon, Jr. ay kaniyang binigyang-pugay ang mga nagawa ng mga natatanging Olongapeño, ‘’Kayong lahat ay inspirasyon at modelo ng ating lungsod. Patuloy kayong maging magandang ihemplo sa Olongapo.

Para sa 3rd year ng ‘’Outstanding Olongapeño’’ ay muling sisimulan ang pangangalap para sa mga susunod na nominasyon. Maaaring tumungo sa Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Office na matatagpuan sa 3rd Floor, City Hall Building o tumawag sa 222-3353 para sa karagdagang impormasyon.
